Blog #8: The US flag at half-staff
When should the US flag be flown at half staff?
-Firstly, the US flag, when flown at half staff should always be raised to the top of the flagpole quickly and then gently lowered to half staff. Most days when the flag is flown it half staff it’s a result of the nation in remembrance or in mourning. The occasions in which the US should be flown at half staff are as follows:
-By order of the president upon the death of a principal figure in the United States government or following tragic event occurring.
-Peace Officers Memorial Day, May 15th, unless that day is also Armed Forces Day.
-Memorial Day, last Monday in May (only from sunrise to noon should the flag fly at half staff)
-Patriot Day, September 11th
-National Firefighters Memorial Day, October
-Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, December 7th
