How to hang a flag? How do I properly fly a US flag?

-Flag code in the United States was adopted by the National Flag Congress on June 14th, 1923 but not officially passed into public law until June 22nd, 1942. US Code outlines the appropriate use of the US flag as follows:

The Flag should never be displayed upside down, except to convey extreme distress.

The Flag should never touch anything under it.

The Flag should never be carried flat.

The Flag should never be used for anything other than it’s intended purpose as a flag, this includes clothing, draperies, or bedding. It should also never be tied back or fastened, but always free and allowed to wave.

The Flag should never be used or stored in an environment in which it can be easily damaged or soiled.

The Flag should never be used to cover a ceiling

The Flag should never be altered in any way.

The Flag should never be used to carry anything.

When the Flag is no longer fit for display, it should be destroyed by properly burning it.

The Flag should always be displayed above all other state, city, and company flags adjacent to it. But if two or more country’s flags are displayed they must be displayed level with one another.

The flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.

The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously.

The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all weather flag is displayed.
